Redcliffe hands £5,000 to children's bereavement charity

Childhood bereavement charity Winston's Wish says it is 'incredibly grateful' for a donation of £5,000 from independent house builder Redcliffe Homes. The company, which builds desirable homes in the most sought-after locations in the South West, made the donation out of the Company’s social responsibility fund, established many years ago.

Winston’s Wish has been supporting bereaved children since 1992, providing in-depth therapeutic support to bereaved children and young people by phone, email and face-to-face, along with online resources and training for professionals. The charity has recently supported families affected by the Grenfell tragedy. Kerry Waite, Regional Fundraising and Events Officer, said:

"The majority of our funding comes through donations from individuals and companies. We need £2.5 million a year to keep the service going, so donations like this one from Redcliffe are absolutely critical to ensure we can continue to support the families who need us. I want to say a huge thank you to Redcliffe. We're incredibly grateful for their support, which allows us to continue doing the important work we do."

With the average cost of supporting a family for a year being £2,400, Redcliffe's £5,000 donation could help support two families at the time they need it most. Alternatively, the £5,000 could pay for the charity's helpline to be operated for a week. With 6,532 conversations in 2018-19, the helpline is a critical part of supporting around 13,000 children each year.

The donation was raised directly from the sale of each and every house, (our local tax!) at Redcliffe's developments in Ashleworth and Corsham. Nup End Green in Ashleworth is a bespoke development of 35 three, four and five bedroom homes, with just seven homes remaining. The homes are all energy efficient and whilst traditional in design externally, internally each home provides a range of finishes, kitchens and bathrooms that exude quality. Ashleworth is a beautiful rural setting yet within easy access to Gloucester, Cheltenham, Hereford and the M50.

The Park Place development in Corsham comprises of two, three, four and five bedroom homes and is in a charming rural setting, yet just a stone's throw from the beautiful historic market town of Corsham - a real hidden gem; full of character.

Lorraine Kendrick, Marketing & Sales Manager, from Redcliffe Homes commented:

" Being able to make direct donations from our developments to wonderful, local charities like Winston's Wish is very important to us, as we believe it provides a direct link to the local communities in whose areas we build.

The charity's work is invaluable to young people and their families who find themselves in the most awful of circumstances, so we're delighted to play just a small part in the helping Winston's Wish provide these families with what they need."
