Quartet Community Foundation Grant to Local Charity - Phase Thornbury CIC
Primary age group: Young people (13 - 18 years old).
Project Summary:
Towards a drug and alcohol cessation programme, expansion of the group’s mentoring programme and running costs.
What did the grant fund?
“We are providing counselling in different locations which each see 3 clients, funding is continually being sought so we can continue to provide this service. We have been able to train a new group of volunteer mentors which has expanded our capacity and are now mentoring across 5 locations within our area, we have provided relevant and ongoing training opportunities for our mentors.”
How many people benefitted?
200
What difference had the grant made?
“We have been able to engage with an increased number of young people, extending our mentoring service providing individual 1-2-1 support for young people in our area. Mentoring looks to promote positive and healthy lifestyle choices for young people. We have been able and can continue to see 6 young people in 2 different locations. We have looked to reduce and help young people manage the extreme levels of anxiety that has presented.
This grant has helped enable us to provide counselling and mentoring support over the past year. It has contributed to the 100+ young people that we have been able to work directly with over the last year in spite of all the Covid restrictions. Receiving this grant has helped to develop the counselling service. We have developed our processes which in turn has helped develope PHASE as an organisation.
Engaging with young people who live and attend Education in our local community helps to seek and address the negative image and connotations that can go with young people. Through our 1-2-1 engagement with young people it impacts on their direct relationships, helping them to have a more productive and positive relationship with School, family and friends.
We look to promote positive and healthy lifestyle choices. Having a service that looks to support and deliver services locally negates the need for travel out of area which can be a barrier to accessing support. As a fledging organisation we are looking to establish our services within the community, becoming a synonymous source of help and support for young people and their families. We have seen an increase in parent/carers reaching out to us support for their young people.”
What happens now?
“Our aims and ethos is for all young people and their families to be able to access free and local support. We are continually seeking ways to continue providing our services for the local community that we live in. We have been fortunate to secure awards for all funding which provided us with £10,000 that will be used across services for Phase.”
